I think the translations into french and spanish are a bit misleading. These languages are not typical stress languages like Russian or English in which a syllable is either AND loud AND high AND long AND full vowel or AND weak AND low AND short AND tending towards schwa. In other languages these qualities can de distributed differently and do not always travel together. In Chinese e.g. a syllable can very well be low and loud. Underlining one of the syllables as having 'stress' would suggest they are stress languages. I think this should be reserved for real stress languages. The point is particularly important for speakers of stress languages who attempt to learn non-stress ones: if you do not realize they have some uncoupling to do they'll always have an 'accent'.
